Ginny Charbonneau in Aruba
A FEARFUL FLYER AND IMPATIENT TRAVELER FIND THE GAME OF GOLF AND THE COUNTRY
By Mike Collar
Bob and Ginny Charbonneau have been married 17 years and do just about everything together…so why not a 50-state golf tour?
You see, the couple drive back and forth to work (at Seton Health) together. Bob is an administrator and Ginny, a compliance officer. They belong to the Ballston Spa Country Club.
This journey actually started in 2000 and ended in July 2010 at Charbonneau Country Club in Portland, OR. (where else?)

GREENE COUNTY COURSE GOES TILL HALLOWEEN
By John Craig
WINDHAM – On the week that the PGA Tour wraps its “regular season” at the Wyndham Championship on Tobacco Road, the Capital Area has its namesake – Windham, as in Windham Country Club.
“They don’t call it Windy Hamlet for nothing,” joked PGA Head pro Brian Lowe while he and I made our way around the back nine of his course.
Webb Simpson took home $936,000 for winning the Wyndham Championship and earning his first win on the PGA Tour. Now let’s see him come play this scenic and challenging track in Greene County that was bought for a fraction of that.

A TALE OF TWO GOLF COURSES
By Benita Zahn
Variations on paradise can be found within an hour’s drive of each other if you start your trip in Charleston, SC. First stop: The Plantation Course at Edisto Beach. Edisto is a place that time forgot, or rather, has been kept at bay.
The Chamber of Commerce calls it South Carolina’s best kept secret. There’s no fast food or hotels, rather condos, houses and apartments for rent and a beautiful beach which you can retreat to after golf. There’s only one course on the island: The Plantation Course. Sweet is how I’d describe it.

CLIFTON PARK REVIVES PAR-3 COURSE
By Mike Collar
CLIFTON PARK – The Town of Clifton Park purchased the Barney Road Golf Course in October 2010, permanently protecting 39-acres of park land in one of Clifton Park’s oldest suburban neighborhoods.
Nearly two months after the par-3 executive course opened under municipal ownership, town officials couldn’t be happier. The golf course, open daily from 7:30AM to dusk, is located in Clifton Park’s Country Knolls neighborhood, just minutes away from Exit 9 of the Northway.

ANNUAL COMPETITION, RAINY CONDITION
Burden Lake Country Club held its annual Stroke Play championship under two distinctly different weather days. Saturday, beautiful and July-like. Sunday, wet, soggy and monsoon-like.
After several stops and starts, Cody Bielawa bested Dan Ireland by four strokes to win the men’s championship. Heather Morrison beat Jen DiIorio by three to win the ladies championship flight of the 2011 edition. BLCC is called “a true test of golf for all skill levels.” It’s a par-71 track, for men, it’s a 6,205-yards, for women, it’s 4,880-yards.

COOPERSTOWN’S OTHER GAME
By Benita Zahn
If you’ve never played at Leatherstocking in Cooperstown, do yourself a favor and book a round. You won’t be disappointed. It’s gorgeous, challenging and meticulously groomed.
Unless you hit down the center all the time you’ll have to contend with undulating lies, thick rough and water. There are breathtaking views of Otsego Lake, some “billy goat” holes and whatever your GPS tells you is the distance, believe it. In short, it’s one exciting round of golf that will make you think and delight when it all comes together.
