JUNIOR PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
While officially there’s more than a month left of summer on the calendar, by golf standards in the Capital Area, the season has its moments that remind us school starts soon. That includes the Junior Golf Tour put on by the Northeastern New York PGA.
On Saturday, August 12, the NENY PGA held its annual Player of the Year event and awards at the Edison Club in Rexford. The top players in each age division were invited to participate. In all but one age division, the winner of Saturday’s tournament was the Player of the Year.
Congratulations to all the award winners:
Boys 16-18: Evan Sitts (Oneonta)
Boys 13-15: Paul Goetz III (Clifton Park)
Boys 8-12: Dixon Boggs (Wilton)
Girls 16-18: Isabella Diaz (Ballston Spa)
Girls 13-15: Nicole Criscone (Clifton Park)
Girls 8-12: Kennedy Swedick (Voorheesville)
The next event for the Juniors is the NENY Fall Event, Sept. 10, at Whispering Pines. Click here for that schedule.
Below are the tournament summaries for each age division. Click on the age to go to the final leaderboard.
Evan Sitts, 16, of Oneonta shot 75 on Saturday to win his age group by four strokes. He was first in four of nine events and never finished lower than fourth in any event. All his scores were in the 70s.
Paul Goetz III, 15, of Clifton Park won the final tournament by four. He was first in four of ten tournaments. He made his move early, going from third to second to first in the first three events of the summer.
Dixon Boggs, 12, of Wilton scored 40 points on Saturday. In eight tournaments, he started off slow but then as the calendar turned hot in July and August, so did he.
Isabella Diaz, 16, of Ballston Spa won her division by one stroke on Saturday. In nine tournaments, she was first (4x) or second (5x) in all of them as she traversed each course.
Nicole Criscone, 11, of Clifton Park won by four on Saturday. (Her NENY PGA profile is private so we don’t have full tournament results. Heading into seventh grade at Albany Academy for Girls, Nicole has had a lot on her plate this summer, especially her mother’s battle with cancer.
Shea Hildenbrandt, 12, of Niskayuna won her division by three with 28 points. However, it was Kennedy Swedick, 10, of Voorheesville, who had locked up Player of the Year honors. (Her NENY PGA profile is private so we don’t have full tournament results.) She was the National Finalist for this past season’s Drive, Chip & Putt at Augusta National.
