ADAMS & COCCA ADVANCE IN GUILDERLAND

Seth Adams of Schenectady and Bailey Cocca of Latham persevered through a wet, sloggy golf course on Sunday, June 28th, to win their respective divisions and will represent the Northeastern New York Section PGA in the 2009 PGA Junior Championship at TPC River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio from July 28-31.Rain wiped out the first round of play when Western Turnpike became unplayable on Saturday. So, the players returned on Sunday to compete for the Championship.

Adams won the Boys Division with a score of two over par 74. He was one under par through the 10th hole and then put together a string of pars from 11-15. However, he struggled to close, bogeying 16-18 but held on for the win.

DJ Tozier (35-40-75) from Clifton Park and Aaron Simone (35-40-75) from Niskayuna both finished one stroke back at three over par 75.

Adams also won the Boys 16-18 Age Division while Simone won the Boys 13-15 Age Division. Zack Scala from Ballston Spa won the Boys 12 & Under Age Division with a score of 41.

Cocca, 15, won the Girl’s Division with a score of 40-40-80. She trailed Vanessa Fassler (38-43-81) after nines hole by two shots but caught her on the back nine to win. Cocca lost in a playoff in the 2008 NENY PGA Junior Championship. She also won the Girls 16-18 Age Division.

Jessica Madsen from Slingerlands won the Girls 13-15 Age Division with a score of 40-44-84, and Natalie Squillace from Albany won the Girls 12 & Under Age Division with a score of 66.
