Spending time with friends and family is an important aspect in anyone’s life. This is one of the many positives golf has brought Bill Socha, President of Socha Management and the Mohawk Golf Club in Niskayuna. This positive has extended through his earliest days until now. “My dad would always watch the Masters,” said Bill, “and that’s even one of my first memories-watching the Masters with my dad.”

The togetherness that golf brings into Bill’s life extends to his business as well. The easy networking opportunities that golf provides has allowed him to learn “how to run my business more effectively through other people’s sharing.” Another thing that golf brings to business is its honor’s system, “or integrity between golfers. It is very important that businesses behave in the same way, with honesty and integrity.” Along with this, Bill believes that anyone who picks up the game of golf can find an extremely constructive outlet where they can enjoy the outdoors and exercise in a social setting while fostering a sense of respect and etiquette. Furthermore, “It’s very unique and I like how it’s not only a physical game but has psychological parts as well. There are so many facets to golf. It’s very dynamic,” and this helps students of the game deal with dynamic situations in life as well.

Today, Bill utilizes golf yearly in a special tradition with a group of 12 friends “that travels down to Myrtle Beach to play golf every year. Some of these people have been my friends since kindergarten, and some I only see once a year at this outing. Its something we all look forward to, sometimes rivalries and matchups even extend from one year to another!” This directly ties in with the idea that golf brings people together, an idea that has reverberated throughout Bill’s life. His message to parents of possible golfers: “I would tell them to let their kid give it a try. Golf has a lot to bring to anyone’s life…golf is a sport the child and parent can easily do together; you can’t do this in other sports…but in golf all ages and levels can play together.”
