Crum gets the ending he wanted to the Saratoga Championship
Brian Crum of Ballston Spa parred the first playoff hole to beat Matt Canavan of the host club today to win the Saratoga County Amateur Championship at McGregor. Both players finished the 36-hole event at 3-over-par 147. Bill Paulsen of Eagle Crest won the senior division by one stroke.

WILTON, June 12…Brian Crum says it won’t happen again. A Navy lieutenant and member of Ballston Spa Country Club, Crum begins play Saturday with the lead in the seventh annual Saratoga County men’s amateur championship at McGregor Links Country Club.It’s the same spot he had last year. But Crum skied to a 79 on the final day and finished out of contention.
“It would make a great parting gift,” the 28-year-old U.S. Naval Academy graduate said. “I want to win the title.” Crum knocked in five birdies for a 2-under-par 70. He’ll take a one-shot lead over 20-year-old Matt Canavan in today’s final round.
Eighteen-year-old Sean Miles, a University at Albany graduate, is third at 73. Defending champ Bill Paulsen had a 72 to take the seniors lead by one shot over Eagle Crest Golf Club’s Dan Seiter.
