Sweet #16 Picturesque for Kodak
The 16th hole at both Turning Stone and Firestone was the Kodak Challenge hole this week, although they were two very different holes. It’s the only time this year that the Kodak Challenge is at two PGA Tour tournaments simultaneously.
The Kodak Challenge is a season-long competition for players marking the beautiful and memorable holes on the tour. Players must play in at least 18 of the 30 holes to be eligible to win the $1 million top prize. The player with the lowest cumulative score relative to par wins the money and a trophy.
At Turning Stone, Troy Merritt drained a 21-foot birdie in the final round on the par-3 16th hole. It played 177-yards. Merritt moves to -11, just one stroke behind the Kodak leader Rickie Fowler.
The TSRC winner Bill Lunde smacked his 6-iron to just four-feet for birdie. Tim Petrovic had the moment of the day, leaving his tee shot just 16-inches from the cup. The 16th played the 11th toughest hole Sunday at Turning Stone.
Down I-90, in Akron, OH, Geoff Oglivy had the Kodak moment of the day when he rolled in a 51-foot birdie putt on the par-5, 667-yard hole at the World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational.
Lucas Glover left his shot closest to the pin when his second shot was just 16-feet away. Boo Weekley dropped a 13-inch putt for birdie there. Fowler parred the hole Saturday for his best score.
Firestone’s #16 was the toughest hole Sunday, yielding 18 birdies, 51 pars, six bogeys and three double bogeys.
The next Kodak Challenge hole comes in two weeks at Sedgefield Country Club during the Wyndham Championship August 19-22. It will be the 547-yard par-5 15th.
Fowler leads the overall competition. He’s played 16 of the holes and is -12. Merritt has played 17 of the holes and is -11. Brendon de Jonge (17), Ted Purdy (17) and Steve Lowery (15) are all tied at -10. Mark Wilson (16), Jason Bohn (15), John Senden (13) and Zach Johnson (12) are all tied for fourth at -9.
