TURNING STONE TICKETS AVAILABLE MAY 1
VERONA – Charities around the region will again be given the opportunity to raise funds through the Turning Stone Resort Championship’s “Tickets for Charity” program. This is the fourth year of the initiative, administered by the Upstate New York Empowerment Fund which is the regional charitable component of the official PGA TOUR event scheduled for Aug. 2 -8 at Atunyote Golf Club. The program raised nearly $750,000 during its first three years.
After three years in the PGA TOUR’s “Fall Finish” Series, the 2010 Turning Stone Resort Championship will be a summer event during the regular FedExCup season. The Championship will attract 132 players from throughout the world competing for a $4 million purse. Its past champions are Matt Kuchar, Dustin Johnson and Steve Flesch.
Beginning Saturday, May 1, participating charitable organizations will sell advance tickets to the tournament, receiving 100% of the face value of all tickets sold. “Good Any Day” tickets, priced at $25, can be used any day during tournament week from Wednesday through Sunday. Those same tickets will cost $35 at the gate. Tickets for charity will run through July 30.
Last year, 65 charities from eight counties participated, including Baldwinsville Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. The organization announced the ticket sales program at practices and at games, and also relied on word of mouth among the players, parents, coaches and supporters.
“It was a nice fundraising event for us,” said President Tom Sciuga. “Everybody enjoyed it and we were pleased to be a part of the tournament.” Thanks to the money raised through Tickets for Charity, the league was able to offer free registration to some families, and it also helped to meet a myriad of operating expenses including uniforms, field maintenance, insurance and utilities. Sciuga said they plan to kick off the fund-raiser again in 2010 and, ultimately, the league would like to purchase its own field as many other Pop Warner organizations have done.
The deadline for charities to apply is May 31.
