MCMAHON IS NAMED TOP TEACHER
Kay McMahon, who runs “EduKaytion Golf” in the Capital Area, has to make more room on her mantle. She needs it for the 2009 Ellen Griffin Rolex Award given to an individual who has made superior contributions to teaching golf.
“I am very thrilled to have received this award – the highest honor from the LPGA,” McMahon said in a statement. McMahon, has a duel membership with the PGA of America and LPGA Teaching & Club Professionals (T&CP). She was named 2009 NENY PGA Section Teacher of the Year and this year’s President’s Award for service.Additionally, she was named Head Golf Professional at Egremont Country Club in Great Barrington, MA, by Frank Mazzarelli, CEO and General Manager.
The Ellen Griffin Rolex Award has been given annually since 1989 to recognize a member of the LPGA T&CP for her superior contributions to teaching golf. It honors the late Ellen Griffin, one of the best-known women’s golf teaching professionals in American history, who died in 1986. A person who wins it has made a major contribution to the teaching of golf and who emulates Griffin’s spirit, love and dedication to students, teachers, teaching skills and the game of golf.
“Kay McMahon truly represents the best of the LPGA Teaching & Club Professionals,” Leslie Andrews, executive director of the LPGA T&CP. “Not only is she an outstanding and widely respected teacher, she has dedicated years of service to the LPGA. She is a continuing source of inspiration to me and to all our members.”
“The name Ellen Griffin and teaching are synonymous with the finest and purest form of teaching in the country,” McMahon said. “I’m very thrilled to have followed in the footsteps of Ellen and the other award recipients, from whom I have learned so much from along every step of my career.”

MCMAHON’S BACKGROUND
Born in Minnesota , McMahon graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a Bachelor of Science in education. She joined the LPGA T&CP in 1979 and received her Class-A status in 1984. She taught in Palm Springs, CA for more than 25 years and later created, developed and operated golf business for City Golf Boston in Massachusetts and Innerform Golf in Saugatuck, Michigan. In 1995, she was named LPGA National Teacher of the Year. In 2003, she founded EduKaytion Golf.
McMahon served as national president of the LPGA T&CP from 1998-99 and has twice been nominated for the LPGA T&CP Hall of Fame (2006, 2008).
She’s been recognized by “Golf For Women” magazine as a Top 50 Teacher (2000) and one of GOLF Magazine’s Top Regional Teachers (2007). In 2001, she was also named a Top 400 instructor for both GOLF Magazine and Golf Digest.

LPGA T&CP
The LPGA Teaching and Club Professional membership, founded in 1959 and celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, has enjoyed an unprecedented rate of growth in recent years and boasts the largest membership of women golf professionals in the world. With nearly 1,300 members, the LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals are dedicated to the advancement of golf through teaching, coaching and managing golf facilities.
