Ninth Grader Advances to U.S. Girls Junior Championship by MIKE DYER
LATHAM, June 23….Shaker High School ninth grader Bailey Cocca hopes she is on the same path that led Nancy Lopez to the LPGA.Cocca, 15, qualified Monday for the U.S. Girls Junior Championship slated for Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey July 20-25.
Lopez won two U.S. Girls Junior titles before making it to the big time. Cocca won a one-hole playoff to become one of 156 golfers in the big championship in Bedminster, N.J.
Cocca is the women’s champion at Shaker Ridge Country Club. She is the daughter of veteran shot-maker Jimmy Cocca.
Late last year Bailey Cocca won the All-Star Junior Golf Championship in Milford, Conn.
She has won 15 tournaments including a Northeastern New York PGA Junior title last year.
Cocca finished 35th out of 62 in the New York State Golf Association Women’s Championship last year.
